Apex Legends started in the shadows of Fortnite and Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, but the battle royale game has quickly risen to the top of Twitch and YouTube streamer rankings, with the total Apex Legends player count at more than 50 million across all platforms.

If you want to be successful in Apex Legends and climb the ranks, you’ll need to learn some tips and tricks to improve your playstyle, keep yourself alive longer and ensure victory every time. Here are seven of my favorite Apex Legends tips and tricks to get you over the competition.

1. Use cover and high ground to your advantage

Apex Legends is a game where strategy and patience are key. One of the most important parts of winning any battle is understanding how to use cover in your favor and high ground. There are plenty of ways you can utilize these two elements to gain an advantage over the other team.

One way you can use cover is by using it as a shield from incoming fire from enemies on high ground, or low ground for that matter. The best tactic is to wait until they start firing before popping up and returning fire.

Another way you can use cover is by sticking close to teammates so that all three of you have overlapping lines of sight against the enemy team. You should also always remember to place yourself behind corners and at the bottom of staircases, as this makes it difficult for opponents to shoot at you without exposing themselves too much. Lastly, remember not to bunch together with your teammates; doing so leaves you vulnerable from all angles.

The high ground can be advantageous because of its vantage point, which lets you see farther into the distance than if you were on lower ground. The best thing about utilizing high ground is that you will often have a better angle to shoot down at your opponents. Beware, though, as when attacking from above; there is a higher chance of being attacked by those below!

You can also use high ground strategically by peeking out around cover when reloading weapons and abilities. Doing so allows you to keep an eye on the battlefield while still being protected by the cover; this trick often catches players off guard because they don’t expect someone shooting back while reloading!

2. Stay aware of your surroundings

The first tip is to stay aware of your surroundings. If you get too caught up in a fight, someone might sneak up on you for an easy kill. Stay focused on your enemies so they can’t trick you into an ambush. The second tip is to put your skillset to work.

An example would be using a sniper rifle to pick off enemies from afar or using shotguns at close range when others are getting too close for comfort. Use different weapons depending on the situation to win each battle. It’s also important to find good hiding spots without exposure to enemy fire while waiting for an opportunity to strike.

3. Use your abilities to your advantage

Apex Legends has a lot of items that can be used in battle. Learn what each item does, how to get them, and when they are most effective.

Your ability bar is on the bottom left of your screen. You can use your abilities by clicking on them or using the QWERTY keyboard shortcuts.

It’s important to know when certain abilities are more useful than others. For example, if you’re holding down one part of an objective, like a single door, to block the enemy from getting through, you should try out Pathfinder’s Zipline Gun.

If multiple enemies are attacking you from all directions, try using Gibraltar Shield for protection, as it protects against incoming fire in all directions.

4. Don’t be afraid to use healing items

Healing items are necessary for any player, especially in a game as fast-paced as Apex Legends. If you find yourself in need of healing, don’t be afraid to use one! They’re not just for emergencies–they can be used strategically.

For example, if you know that an enemy is coming up behind you and there’s no way to avoid them without taking damage, drop down from where you’re standing so, they’ll have less time to shoot at you.

5. Pay attention to the mini-map

The mini-map is one of the most important things in Apex Legends. It helps you understand how many enemies are around you, which direction they’re coming from, and if there are any choke points. Keep your eyes on it at all times.

If you find yourself looking down at the ground, try keeping your crosshairs straight up so that you know when someone pops out of a wall.

As with every game, use cover: Take advantage of buildings and anything else that provides cover. If an enemy can’t see you, they can’t shoot you.

Finally, use teamwork: Every squad needs to work together or risk getting overrun by enemies attacking from multiple directions.

6. Use a headset for communication

Using a headset for communication is important as you can talk with your team without distracting others in the household. You also want to ensure you have a noise-canceling microphone on your headset so that others will hear you better.

Lastly, if your game has multiple players talking at once, it is best not to wear headphones, as they can make it difficult for players on your team to hear what you are saying.

7. Know when to fight and when to run

In Apex Legends, knowing when a fight is worth it is important. This is especially true for players who are new to the game. A fight may be worth it if you are low on health or your teammates are low on health.

However, if you have a high level of health and all of your teammates are still alive, running away from combat may be more beneficial.

If an enemy player is chasing after you and they get close enough, they can perform a melee attack that instantly kills you. The best way to avoid this is by getting some distance between them.
